Two Treasured Memories

Created by Victoria 3 years ago

I have grown up with Jackie as she was our neighbour for many years.  She was one of my Mum's best friends and, in turn, she became a friend of ours. My first very treasured memory was when she took me horse riding when I was twelve. I was so excited as I had desperately wanted to ride a horse from a very young age.  I still remember every last detail about the day, the colour and size of the horses we were given, how the hat dug into my forehead, how our legs had turned to jelly when we got off the horse and how very grateful I was to her for taking me.

I also vividly remember Jackie and Norman visiting me and my family in Sydney in 2011 (we were living there at the time).  It was a beautiful, sunny day (Jackie loved the sun!) and they had been travelling for hours, so they were exhausted.  I offered them both a cup of tea and left them on our swing chair in the sunshine, listening to the birds.  When I took the tea out to them, both were sound asleep, heads back, mouths wide open, snoring away!
